Residential Energy Assessment:
We offer a tailored assessment that includes detailed tests and measurements of your house. This detail allows for the following:
- We quantify and prioritize the energy saving opportunities in your home.
- You see what the payback period is for each improvement recommendation.
- You maximize cost savings on your monthly utility bills.
- The possibility of living in a more comfortable, healthy house becomes a reality.

Components of Energy Assessment:
- Thermal Imaging: infrared technology is used to evaluate insulation deficiencies, locate the source of cold winter drafts and air conditioning loss, and identify unseen water damage
- Blower Door Diagnostic: a large, specialized fan is used to quantify home air leakage and verify minimum ventilation requirements
- Combustion Analysis: determines operating efficiencies of the furnace and hot water heater, and checks if equipment is safely venting carbon monoxide
- Attic and Crawl Space Inspection: investigate potential air leaks in susceptible areas
- Duct Test: measure duct airflow to determine whether equipment is properly functioning
- Natural Gas Detection: determines if there are any leaks
- Window & Door Measurements: data is used to model energy flow between the indoor and outdoor environments
- Lighting Evaluation: review lighting efficiency options and lighting levels
- Resident Interview: speak with occupant(s) to identify any areas they perceive as problematic
Below is some information on a few of the diagnostics we perform. We are happy to discuss our process with you in more detail.
This diagnostic test quantifies and helps locate air leaks in a building’s walls, floors, and ceilings. By running a specialized, high-powered fan, we can pull air outside of the house, thus creating a pressure difference between the indoor and outdoor environments. This pressure difference magnifies air infiltration, which occurs in areas such as the following: door jams, gaps around pipes, areas where building materials join, window and floor moldings, and recessed lighting fixtures.
Infrared technology highlights the variations in surface temperature along walls, floors and ceilings. Therefore, it is very effective at identifying areas that need repair, without having to dismantle or uncover structural elements. We tour the house with our infrared equipment to uncover air leaks, missing or poorly installed insulation, and moisture issues. Moreover, we document problematic areas with infrared and digital photos.
We perform an essential series of safety checks on furnaces, boilers and water heaters. These checks include the following: natural gas and carbon monoxide detection, combustion drafting, equipment efficiency, and spillage evaluations at vented appliances. Preliminary and post-installation safety inspections of all combustion appliances are necessary whenever changes to the building envelope and/or heating system are included in the scope of work.
